MPC-Polymer for Eye Care
Biocompatible polymer for advanced ophthalmic and eye drop applications.
Improves tear film stability, relieves dry eye symptoms, and enhances comfort in contact lens wearers.
Phosphoryl Choline-Based Polymer for Dry Eye Relief and Ocular Health
MPC Polymer (2-Methacryloyloxyethyl Phosphoryl Choline) is a highly biocompatible polymer designed for ophthalmic applications. Its unique structure combines phosphoryl choline groups, which are strongly hydrophilic and suppress protein and cell adhesion, with methacrylic groups, which provide flexibility and versatility in formulations.
Already used as an additive in commercial eye drop solutions, MPC Polymer reduces discomfort caused by blurred vision due to excessive eye mucus. It improves ocular moisture retention, stabilizes the tear film, and supports cell protection against preservative-induced damage.
NAGASE supplies MPC Polymer globally for advanced ophthalmic formulations, eye drops, and contact lens care products, with full technical expertise and international distribution support.

Additional Information
MPC-Polymer prevents efficiently cell damage by common preservatives.

SIRC cells (10^4 cells/well) was incubated for 24 h. A solution with increasing BAC or PHMB concentration and MPC-Polymer (0, 2, 10 %) was added. The test was incubated for 5 min. The nutrient medium was collected and the absorbance of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was measured. The higher the concentration of LDH, the higher amount of damaged cells.
MPC-Polymer improves significantly the dry eye score
